Public schools in Port Coquitlam are part of School District 43 Coquitlam. In Port Coquitlam, there are 13 elementary schools, 3 of which are French Immersion, 5 middle schools and 2 secondary schools. There are also 5 private schools in Port Coquitlam.
The West Coast Express provides commuter rail service west to downtown Vancouver and east as far as Mission. TransLink provides a number of bus routes throughout the city, and Canadian Pacific Railway has a major rail yard in the central sector of the city.
The City maintains a total of 266 hectares of parkland and natural areas, as well as park sites, playgrounds, sport fields, tennis courts, sport courts, outdoor pools and the Traboulay PoCo Trail system, along with numerous internal trails.

- Port Coquitlam consists of an approximately 2.5% share of Greater Vancouver's population.
- Compared with the Metro Vancouver (MV) region, Port Coquitlam has a larger share of residents under 20, but a smaller share of young adults 20-34 years old.
- Port Coquitlam has a median age of 37.5.
- Compared with the larger Metro Vancouver region, Port Coquitlam has a higher number of couples with children.
- Port Coquitlam has consistently held a high ratio of owned to rented buildings, especially as compared to Metro Vancouver and the province. In 2006, almost 80% of dwellings in Port Coquitlam were owned, while only 20% were rented.
- Of respondents who noted speaking predominantly one language at home, 82% reported speaking English and 16% a non-official language.
- The percentage of Port Coquitlam residents whose first language was English is approximately 70%.
- In 2006, 28% of Port Coquitlam's population were immigrants. This share is substantially less than that found in Metro Vancouver (39.6%).
- Visible minorities make up 26% of Port Coquitlam's population, compared with 34% in 2001 and 27% in 1996. This share is less than that found in Metro Vancouver (42%).
